The Death Road or “Camino de la muerte” is a road to the tropical Yungas region of La Paz department, it used to be the main road for public transportation to go the Yungas and amazon, now it became a road mainly for biking. It starts from La Cumbre at an altitude of 4.200 meters and finishes at 1200 meters, most of it downhill, the flat part you have to pedal.
In this tour you will have the chance to bike down the World’s Most Dangerous Road. Definitely one of the most popular among people. The tour is in charge of Vertigo Biking Team, they have vast recommendations on Trip Advisor. They use full suspension bikes, they have English speaking guides, all the safety gear and the best is that compared to others they have small groups.
After surviving the Death Road you will get a T-Shirt and all the pictures and videos of the day sent to your email address.
8:15/8:30 Pickup from the Hotel and Departure to the Summit.
10:30 Before starting the bike ride, the guide provides instructions and safety recommendations. For the first 45 minutes to 1 hour you will be riding down the first part, which is a paved road, it will help you to get familiar with bike, then you arrive to Unduavi (the first stop) you pay the first entrance fee (Bs. 25). Then you will jump on the bus and pass the uphill part until the beginning of the Death Road, where you pay a second entrance fee (Bs. 25).
Around midday we start of descent on the real “Death Road”, we will stop in San Juan (snacks time), to then continue the tour.
15:00 Approximately we will arrive to a hotel where you will get a buffet lunch, you will have access to the bathrooms, showers and swimming pool.
For the journey back to La Paz we use the new road and it will take around 3 hours. We will arrive to La Paz around 19:30 – 20:00

Warm clothes for the first part and light clothes for the second part.
We suggest you to bring a second set of clothes, on the tour you will get wet and dirty, although we provide trousers and jacket sometime it’s not enough.

We recommend clothes you feel comfortable to ride a bike. Jeans, shorts, leggings and sweatpants are the most common.

No, you just need to know how to ride a bike, as most of it is downhill, it becomes an easier bike tour.
No, at least you don’t need to be a professional downhill rider, this is a bike tour, you go at your own peace so you can feel comfortable.
Yes! In the finishing part there are some single track options which you can do it with NO EXTRA COST.
Yes, just before you finish the second part of the ride, you can stop and do the zip line, it has an extra cost.
If you don’t feel like you can continue you jump on the bus at whatever point of the tour, you just tell the guide or the driver behind you. If you change your mind you can tell the guide and continue.
There are many stops, mainly to get instructions from the guide, taking pictures or have some snacks and water. The amount and location of breaks depend entirely on the weather.
No, the offices in which you pay along the road don’t have the facility; please bring cash (Bolivianos).
Yes if you keep it in your backpack. You can take your camera but you are not allowed to ride with it.
The second part of the road is very bumpy and you are there for about 3 to 4 hours. The back suspension helps you not feel pain and concentrate on the road rather to concentrate on the pain and confortness.
We take maximum 22 people per ride; however we separate in small groups, 1 guide every 5 people for a better control.
The actual bike ride takes 4 to 5 hours, however, it’s a full day activity.
